Wayfinding: Inked With Purpose

This Samoan compass, designed by Fitu, represents wayfinding, resilience and our connection through body, mind, heart and spirit.

At its centre is Vai Moana, an ocean wave representing creation, matriarchy and the continuous cycle of life. For Kadence Legacy Fund, this wave represents Kadence and her water ceremony in Hawai‘i. It keeps her memory at the centre of the design and the mission created in her honour.

Facing outward in the four directions are Manu Lele, frigate birds that represent life’s journey and the ability to travel between the physical and spiritual worlds. They are believed to carry messages from loved ones who have passed.

Facing inward are Mana, spirit guides that help lead us back to our centre, our balance and our sense of home.

For those who have experienced trauma, healing can be a journey of wayfinding. With support from loved ones, spirit and service dogs like Sadie and Morgan, they can begin finding their way back to themselves.

This tattoo honours the strength and resilience of trauma survivors, the loved ones who continue to guide us and the service dogs that help lead people home.
